As Sydney Water officially launches the Sydney Water Research Network (SWRN) on 31 July, exciting developments are underway!

Sydney Water has created the Sydney Water Research Network (SWRN) to fast-track and improve Sydney Water’s ability to engage and work with five of the most important universities of NSW, including the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and the University of Technology Sydney.

The SWRN will be officially launched on 31 July where water industry thought leaders and SWRN university partners will gather to celebrate this milestone. The NSW Acting Deputy Chief Scientist & Engineer and Sydney Water executives will give a speech followed by a panel discussion about the future of innovation in the water sector. A networking session will close the event.

The launch will mark the start of a research network to foster collaboration between industry and NSW's top institutions. Specifically, the objectives of SWRN are to:

  • Identify and communicate Sydney Water’s current and emerging research and innovation challenges and opportunities.
  • Invite university researchers and innovators to submit research proposals for specific Sydney Water business challenges or opportunities.
  • Assess the interest and eligibility of SWRN members in Sydney Water research projects.
  • Create a pool of potential research collaborators.
  • Facilitate the research engagement process using the Collaborative Framework Agreement (CFA) engagement agreement template architecture.

Underpinning the research network is the Collaborative Framework Agreement (CFA), which outlines the mode of engagement for Sydney Water research and innovation projects. This ground-breaking agreement establishes a solid foundation for future research initiatives with our trusted research institutions.  Setting up projects is easier and projects with universities will commence sooner since both parties’ legal teams’ workload will be reduced as they will not have to do a case-by-case review of the elements contained in the agreement.
