Thank you to TasWater for hosting the August 2024 WSAA Members Meeting, and to all participants who joined us over the two days in Hobart.

The meeting commenced with an insightful tour of the Macquarie Point Precinct, guided by Anne Beach of the Macquarie Point Development Corporation. A highlight was George Theo’s presentation on TasWater’s impressive transformation from 29 council utilities into a singular, high-performing state-wide utility.

Participants engaged in discussions on a wide range of topics, notably WSAA’s recent collaboration on family violence and customer safety, enriched with member case studies. A panel discussion, moderated by Stuart Wilson (WSAA) and featuring David Ryan (SA Water), Maree Lang (Greater Western Water), and Anna Jackson (Unitywater), explored the challenges and opportunities in servicing growth.

Furthermore, representatives from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water provided updates on the National Water Agreement and the integral role of water utilities in securing a sustainable water future. Reflections from Roch Cheroux (Sydney Water) and Jo Murdoch (North East Water) provided valuable perspectives. The event concluded with the launch of Nature Positive Water, showcasing over 20 insightful case studies.

Members also had the opportunity to visit the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and TasWater’s Bryn Estyn Water Treatment Plant. We greatly appreciate our members participation in our events and encourage ongoing dialogue to ensure continued progress and collaboration.
