The Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) is pleased to launch our Nature Positive Water paper, an online event that brought together over 120 participants. This launch marks a significant step forward in our collective efforts towards sustainable water management.

During the launch, we provided an insightful overview of the paper, which delves into the water sector’s impacts and dependencies on nature. We emphasised the crucial opportunities available to us to address these challenges, ensuring the resilience of our water infrastructure and services for both our communities and future generations.

Our Nature Positive Water paper is enriched by 24 case studies from across Australia and New Zealand, linked to five key focus areas. These case studies showcase practical, on-ground actions that can build toward a Nature Positive future. We were privileged to have four utilities—Yarra Valley Water, Barwon Water, TasWater, and Unitywater—share their case studies during the launch. Their incredible work exemplifies the tangible benefits of prioritising nature in water management.

Looking ahead, we are excited to present this work more broadly at the upcoming ALCA conference. The 'Nature Positive Water – Partnering with Utilities for Impact' workshop will feature a consortium of water utilities, including Yarra Valley Water, Barwon Water, Icon Water, and Melbourne Water. We are honoured to have Erik Spiro-Larrea from The Nature Conservancy share their invaluable experiences with Smart Water Funds as a pathway to scaling action through partnerships. Thanks to all the utilities featured in the Nature Positive Water paper and we look forward to continuing our journey toward a sustainable and resilient water future.
