WSAA hosted the Metering Community of Practice meeting in August. Themed “Digital Meter Implementation,” the event convened leading industry professionals to explore advancements and challenges in water metering across the region.

The meeting was chaired by Rian Sullings from Sydney Water and co-chaired by Greg Berinson from Water Corporation, alongside Kevin Cheong from South East Water and WSAA Coordinator, Hadis Zare. Over 30 representatives from water utilities, consultants and vendors attended. 

Day 1 highlights: Digital Meter Implementation 

The focus of the day was on digital meter implementation across various utilities.  

WSAA delivered an update including a survey on flat face meters and the inconsistency between the National Measurement Institute (NMI) and Australian standard (AS3565) for recycled water meters. Icon Water presented on the outcomes of the flat face meters survey and reflections from our members. 

The day concluded with a networking dinner, offering participants the chance to connect informally.

Day 2 highlights: Industry Collaboration

The second day featured insightful presentations from consultants and vendors in the digital meters space from Jacobs, Telstra, NMI and Itron.

Best Practice Guideline Working Group Volunteers.

Presentations from Nucleus3 and GHD provided broader, international perspectives GHD’s session on delivering Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) highlighting the evolution of metering beyond simple reading and billing in North America.

Business Case Working Group Volunteers

The final session was an exclusive workshop for utility members, allowing for in-depth discussions on key topics:

  • Development of digital metering standards
  • Creation of best practices guidelines
  • Formulation of strategic business cases
