The People and Capability Committee (PCC) has recently discussed key priority areas to drive a step change improvement in health and safety. In response to the recent Health and Safety Benchmarking Project results and learnings from associated Leading Practices Workshops, a concentration on Fatal Risk was identified as the key industry priority.

In particular, it was recognised that our industry needs to improve sharing of High Potential Incidents (HPIs) and develop a sharing mechanism where WSAA Members, their Delivery Partners, and other key stakeholders will be encouraged to be involved.

WSAA is pleased that two virtual HPI Forums have now been conducted, each having over 60 attendees. An HPI-sharing mechanism has also been scoped.

Examples of HPIs shared and discussed include:

  • Fall from height incident (scaffold 6.5 meters)
  • Penstock extension fall from height resulting in impact to Operator
  • Workers exposed to hydrogen sulfide
  • Vacuum excavator (facial injury)
  • Near miss incident involving car and two employees and
  •  ATV Buggy Rollover

The next HPI forum is scheduled for Tuesday 14 November.  WSAA would encourage all Members and their Delivery Partners to be represented at these virtual forums and also to share HPIs.
