This appraisal is for a range of Stockbrands 4N mechanical tapping bands for use with DIOD and PE pipes manufactured in compliance with AS 4793:2020 Mechanical tapping bands for waterworks purposes. This Issue 4 is a replacement for the previous version of the appraisal which had reached its 5-year expiry date. It also incorporates tapping bands for PE pipe, previously covered by PA 1019, as AS 4793:2020 and WSA PS 310 now incorporates those products within their scopes.
The PN16 tapping bands are designed for pipe compatibilities as follows:
- DIOD and Series 2 pipes including PVC-O, PVC-M, PVC-U, DI, CI and GRP. These tapping bands are designated as Type F and Type R (for both flexible and rigid pipes) and are coloured blue.
- Polyethylene (PE) pipes. These tapping bands are designated Type F (for flexible pipes) and are coloured black.
- Tapped outlet sizes are ¾” (dn20), 1” (dn25), 1¼” (dn32), 1½” (dn40) or 2” (dn50).
Purple coloured tapping bands are also available for non-drinking water pipelines.
The tapping bands are moulded from Sabic Noryl resin, a glass reinforced alloy of PPE and PA, a stable non-corrosive polymer with high stiffness, well suited for injection moulding.
